In accordance with the Montenegrin Law on Foreigners, temporary residence can be granted to a foreigner who intends to stay in Montenegro for more than 90 days, in order to use and dispose of the right to real estate that he owns in Montenegro. A permit can be issued to a foreigner who is a co-owner of at least 1/2 of the real estate.

A temporary residence permit for the purpose of using and disposing of the right to immovable property owned by a foreigner in Montenegro can be issued to a foreigner who meets the legal requirements, and as proof for the justification of the request, attach a deed of immovable property or other evidence confirming ownership of said immovable property.

A decision for the request for a temporary residence permit is to be made within 40 days from the date of submission of the proper request.

A temporary residence permit is issued with a validity period of up to one year.

The request for the extension of the temporary residence permit could be made to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, no later than 30 days before the expiration of the valid residence permit. In the event that the request for the extension of the temporary residence permit is approved, the permit is issued with a new validity period of up to one year.
